A lot of people these days are interested in building muscle without weights. If you think about it, doing it this way means you can avoid the gym completely. There is also the fact that building your body up in a gym is find, but you will need the gym to maintain the body. This is why the old school methods of calisthenics and body weight exercises are becoming popular again.

Building Muscle Without Weights Is Possible

You might be surprised to learn that there are a lot of people who have been able to build amazing bodies without using weights. You can do a search of Youtube and will get plenty of hits of people showing you how to get fit just using equipment found in a playground. Most of these people are in far better shape than 90% of the people who go to your gym.

The question is, why don’t more people do it?

I think people get the idea that chin ups and push ups and all of that is mainly just for kids in Elementary school and Junior High. People believe we just do these exercises in PE class to prepare our bodies to get ready for weight lifting. If you really want to build muscle, you have to use weights, right? Well if you are only lifting weights to build muscle, you are building a one-dimensional body.

Being able to push or pull your body up off of the ground is more important to true physical fitness than being able to lift an object up off the ground in most cases. Their is a reason that the military focuses so heavy on body weight exercise. In the military being able to climb things, drop to the ground and get up quickly could save your life. Being able to lift things such as weights is a handy exercise, but it is not as essential as being able to lift your own body weight. The following will show you how building muscle without weights is possible.

When You Are Strong Mix It Up

If you can easily do 50 push ups, then switch to close grip push ups. When you find these simple, do push ups on one arm. By the time you are able to perform 10-15 one arm push ups, your arms shoulders and chest will have a lot of chiseled mass.

One Limb Movements

For the upper body work your way up to 30-50 reps in push ups and chin ups. When you can do this, bring your hands closer together to make it harder. After you have done that for awhile and it becomes easy, that’s when you can try it using just one arm. It goes the same with leg work – start off doing regular squats at deeper depths and work your way into doing pistol squats with one leg. If you work out in this manner you will be walking proof that building muscle without weights is possible and effective.
